WTA Engineering and Automotive

You will have the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills in the fields of either the Engineering or Automotive trades. This will include Health and Safety, workshop practice, the chance to work on projects and how to use hand tools safely. These Trades offer an insight into the techniques, range of work and both employment and further study opportunities. You will also learn some beneficial communication skills, required to work within the Trades and how to present yourself for the industry.


Campus: Whitireia Campus, Porirua

Cost: Free

Days: There will be two cohorts taught across either Monday & Tuesday or Thursday & Friday

Hours: 9:00am – 2:30pm (half hour lunch)

Equipment: Protective clothing and safety equipment is provided if appropriate

Travel: This is provided free, subject to students meeting MoE requirements

Dates: This course is split into two cohorts for the year.

  • Tuesday 7 February – Tuesday 7 November 2023 (34 weeks) or
  • Thursday 9 February – Friday 10 November 2023 (34 weeks), normal school holidays apply 

Application: Students must be enrolled in a secondary school in the Wellington region and be enrolled in a WTA course by their secondary school

Interview: Students may be requested to attend an interview with a family member or school representative

Qualification: NCEA Level 2 with credit towards Vocational Pathways award

Credits: On successful completion of this course, students will have gained 43 credits (32 Level 2 credits with 11 Level 3 credits)
