Our range of Paramedicine and Emergency Care programmes are aimed at anyone wanting a career in ambulance services. The Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) is delivered in partnership with Wellington Free Ambulance. The Certificate in Emergency Care is delivered in partnership with ProMed.
Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic)
Gain skills to provide emergency and non-urgent medical care in a range of situations. Develop skills to assess, stabilise, treat and refer patients. Learn through clinical placements in ambulance services, hospitals and other situations.
- Level 7
- 3 years, full-time
New Zealand Certificate in Emergency Care (First Responder)
Learn the skills required for first responder roles. This programme gives you the ability to provide primary first-aid care until advanced medical care is available. Learn to assess medical trauma and manage complex emergencies. You will need a valid first-aid certificate to do this programme.
- Level 3
- 30 weeks, part time
New Zealand Diploma in Ambulance Practice (Level 5)
Gain a qualification that covers the knowledge and skills required for practice as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). You will learn through online learning and block courses that include simulation. You’ll need to have completed the NZ Certificate in Emergency Care programme and hold a position as a first responder.
- Level 5
- 1 year, full-time
Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) [For Working or Volunteering Paramedics]
Gain a qualification that integrates the knowledge and skills necessary for practice as a paramedic, while already working or volunteering in ambulance services and holding an Authority to Practice at EMT or above. You’ll learn through online teaching and block courses, including simulation, and you will apply and advance your practice in your current workplace. Study part-time and have up to six years to complete the degree.

- Up to six years based on RPL
