Postgraduate in Information Technology Pathway

Update and extend your knowledge through an in-depth study of the latest technology in your area of speciality including Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Network Design, Security and Forensics, Quality Assurance and Testing, Blockchain & Cybersecurity.

Whitireia and WelTec’s School of IT is one of the largest Information Technology providers in New Zealand. There are three qualifications available online for International Students outside of New Zealand.

1.  Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology

This is a 60 credits NZQA Level 8 postgraduate qualification. It is the first six months* of the 18-month Master of Information Technology. You will complete four courses from the Master qualification to be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate qualification and pathway to the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology or Master of Information Technology.
Entry requirements:
  • Minimum IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6, or equivalent
  • A bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification in information technology or related, or have the acquired skills and knowledge through relevant work or professional practice
  • Find your country's equivalent academic entry requirements here
  • *Completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology with a B grade (65%) average or higher can be admitted into the Whitireia Master of Information Technology

2. Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology

This is a 120 credit NZQA Level 8 postgraduate qualification. It is the first-year study of the 18-month Master of Information Technology. Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology graduates with a B grade (65%) average or higher can be admitted into the Whitireia and WelTec’s Master of Information Technology programme with (cross) credits. For more detailed information please visit the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology programme page.

  • A bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification in information technology or related subject with at least a B grade average at Level 6 or 8, or have the acquired skills and knowledge through relevant work or professional experience.

3. Master of Information Technology

This is a 180 credit NZQA Level 9 postgraduate qualification that includes components of the Level 8 Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology. Students can complete a 60 credit dissertation or a 90 credit Thesis by arrangement. For more detailed information please visit the Master of Information Technology programme page.

  • A bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification in information technology or related subject with at least a B grade average at Level 7 or 8, or have the acquired skills and knowledge through relevant work of professional experience.

*For online delivery all students should enrol for the Postgraduate Certificate first and then pathway to the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and/or Master of Management at a later date when resuming studies in person in New Zealand. It is not necessary to fully complete the Postgraduate Certificate online before you could come to New Zealand and pathway to the Postgraduate Diploma or Master’s. Please contact us for options.
